Usually a Sunday in late June. Check greekday.com in spring.

To be announced

Greek Day on Broadway closes five blocks of West Broadway to traffic for a day of Greek food, music and dancing. It honours the street's history as the heart of Vancouver's Greek community after the Second World War, and marks the close of Greek Heritage Month each June.

It's one of Vancouver's longest-running cultural festivals, first held in the 1970s, and draws about 100,000 people over the day.

What's on

  • Souvlaki, grilled meats, spanakopita, loukoumades (honey doughnuts) and baklava, much of it cooked by Greek community associations as a fundraiser
  • Traditional Greek music and dance groups throughout the day
  • The Agora marketplace, with artisan crafts and Greek products
  • A family area near Broadway and Macdonald with crafts, a photo booth and a DJ

Getting there

  • West Broadway is closed from Stephens St to Waterloo St from about 5 am to 11:30 pm, along with nearby side streets and lanes.
  • Walk up from West 4th: Macdonald St links the Kitsilano shopping strip to the festival in about 10 minutes.
  • Take transit or cycle. Parking nearby is very limited on the day.
  • Arrive early for the shortest food lines.

Make a day of it

Spend the morning on West 4th, then walk up Macdonald St for a late Greek lunch on Broadway. Add Greek Day to your itinerary and the planner works it into the route.
